Our Story
All our cloths are made in our Bridgwater factory here in Somerset.
All our Fairtrade Cotton items are sewn in the UK by our Fairtrade licensed sewing company.
All our cotton items are made from certified Fairtrade Fairtrade Cotton and sourced under Fairtrade arrangements.
The cotton we use is grown in Fairtrade certified cotton farms in Mali, Africa. Under the conditions guaranteed by international Fairtrade standards:
- The guaranteed Fairtrade minimum paid to producers covers production and living costs.
- The additional Fairtrade premium is for investment in agreed community developed projects such as drilling wells and constructing or improving schools and clinics.
- Sustainable agricultural production methods are employed, including environmental protection and ongoing reduction in the use of agrochemicals.
- Non-discrimination and equality of opportunity for all members and workers.
- Democratic and transparent management structures are in place.
- Pre-finance of up to 60% of the value of the contract is available on request.
- Fairtrade registered buyers make a commitment to long-term, stable relationships with producers.
SarahSmith cloths are produced in accordance with the Oeko-Tex 100 standard for textiles and are therefore certified free of substances harmful to humans and the environment.
Our Fairtrade cotton items are printed with Oeko-Tex 100 compliant formulations and we are working towards full certification with our sewing company.
